Perhenthian Islands

Hi guys. Well I last spoke to you from Kota Bahru. Well I got myself a guide for the day which was an absolute god send. I saw the sleeping Buddha which sits at 40 foot long and took over 6 years to build. Then the largest sitting Buddha temple in Malaysia, the silversmiths and watched them working in the back room making jewelry and beautifully boxes. We then went on to the Batik factory where the ladies hand paint realms of silk and cotton in Batik style then hand dye the material and hang it up on huge hangers to air dry. We then went to the Malaysian Kite Maker to see him making traditional kites which they display at ceremonies... He was at the airport so I just had a sneak around. Last but not least we went to the Songket factory. This is where they had make cotton with fine gold threat hand sewn through the material in beautiful patterns and designs. This is usually worn my the King at important festivals and ceremonies. I did consider buying some but it was a little expensive.....But I did purchase some nice earrings.
I left Kota Bahru for Perhenthian Islands on Thursday morning and caught the fast boat to the Island..Not a great idea.. It was so rough. I flossed my teeth with my bottom ribs practically the whole trip. I had to remove my tail bone from my chin when we got to the shore. I stayed in a great little Bungalow near the beach all to myself for a measly 10 ringgit. The only catch was they didn't have electricity but hey that's what my wakky doo torch is for right? Well we did have electricity but the first night it was on from 6.30 to 1.30 the second night it was on 6.30 till 9.30 and the third night there was none at all cause the guy went to the other side of the island to get pissed.
I didn't mind it was a great place to stay because there 's a good crew of people. I met a great Chick from US and a really lovely fella from the UK who was working there as a dive instructor. I went snorkeling on the second day there in the most beautiful clear waters and saw some fantastic fish... One decided to disappear down my swimmers but I rescued him before he thought he swam into the black hole... And I SAW A HUGE TURTLE....I was very happy about that. I jumped off the light beacon and saw some fantastic coral and swam at a really lovely beach. The monsoon hadn't quite gone yet so the side of the Island I was on..Long Beach was rough and there were strong rips in the water...So I did not swim.
I only stayed 3 nights because it's expensive for food and other supplies and I had limited cash with me...No banks on the Island which is a bit of a pain. Probably not a bad thing tho it kept me from hanging around too long. So I'm back in Kota Bahru for the night.
I've decided to head to Taman Negara tomorrow on the Jungle railway instead of beach hopping down the east coast. Then to Melaka and Singapore. I'll probably head to India next to avoid the Monsoon on the eastern side which usually hits may to September. Depends when Dan and Alex will be in Thailand. If they get there soon then I might go to Thailand then to India. Let you know closer I guess.
Be safe.
Love Lizzy
