Melaka

Melaka is a beautiful heritage city south of Kuala Lumpur.
It has been ruled by the Portuguese the Dutch and the British...
It has a large China town in the center of the heritage area and a little India off to another side. It also has the largest Chinese grave site in Malaysia.
I'm staying in a beautiful old building which has been turned into a guest house which has a dipping pool in the center of the common area. As nice as it seems it rather noisy and last night I didn't get much sleep thanks to the other guests.
I caught the bus from Jerantut yesterday down to Melaka. 5 hours on a bus who's driver had a suicide wish. I thought we were on the tower of terror at dream world not a bus interstate!! Look out anyone who got in his way he had a time table to stick to and nothing was going to stop him.
I finally arrived in one piece and found my hostel... the owner Mahummad gave me a pretty detailed map and i actually found my way to the Jonker night markets in China town...surprise surprise..
I spent the night looking at beautiful Chinese antiques and art...And yes I spent up... well not too bad I bought myself a Malaysian Kris which is a traditional knife used for hunting, ceremonies and as apart of their national dress. It's not antique tho. I don't have that much spending money!! As well as a hand painted oak box which is just beautiful. I also got a pressie for my God Son Fynn but I can't tell you what that is yet cause it wont be a surprise....... that's if I ever send it.
Oh yes another debacle at the post office today. Firstly I go to the big post office which is closed for Reno's, of course, then I walk 45 mins to the next post office to line up for half an hour, to be told I can't post the packages because i need to pad out the box!!! What. Here you have to bring all packing material yourself, they only sell the box. Not like home where you can buy bubble wrap etc...
I was so angry I could have kicked a small furry animal... but luck has it Malaysia's out if cats today...which is a miracle in itself.
I was so frustrated i wanted to shout Ahhhhrrrr at the top of my lungs but I'm not sure if they would lock me up for insanity or public nuisance.
So then I thought well everything i want to see is shut now so I'll find Internet cafe and relax a little before I commit a crime.... Fwa. Bad idea it took me forever... but here i am. So i will endeavour to try to see a few sight today...if not there's always tomorrow!

Tip: Always take your own packaging to an asian post office and most of the time - someone who can translate - so you can find out when it should get to it's destination. Then - prey!!!!! I think it took a good month and a half for my stuff to get to Australia!! A bit of a worry when I sent it two weeks before I left!!! Small tip when you're picking out that lovely antique piece of furniture or jewellery that you are thinking of sending me for my birthday!!!
