My introduction to Singapore Immigration

O.k..This story starts at the post office in Johor Bahru....Yes I know you'd think I'd learn my lesson but I seriously had to post this stuff. We'll I get to the counter and JOY...I can post my C.D of my photo's to Dan!!! Yippee!!(harass Dan if you'd like to see my photo's) So we get to the two packages..No joy.. The only boxes they had to put things in were big enough to send me home.....At this point it was a consideration.
So I decided to jump the border and go to civilisation and send my stuff from Singapore.
BAD MOVE.
The uneducated idiot that I am, enters Singapore thinking that the rules for declared Items would be similar to Australia considering we're pretty strict on items you can bring into the country.
NO.
I had bought with me my Kris to send...Now it's a knife, yes. For display purposes, Yes. So I thought it's ok to bring these into Singapore.
NO.
I went through customs and declared my objects and next thing you know i have immigration police taking me and my parcels, along with my passport, to the police headquarters. EEkkkk
They asked me what my purpose was here. Why was I here only for one day. When is my flight....then very curious to learn there was no flight. Why I had a Kris and what was my purpose of use. Bla Bla Bla.
So I explain all I want to do is send it home and my drama with Malaysia post. That it's for display purpose and yudda yudda.
The whole time I'm thinking of the death penalty and what a loser I am for not knowing this.
They inform me that as apart of the dangerous weapons act I'm not allowed to bring this into the country and that it's punishable by 5 years imprisonment. Fantastic! A 5 year stop over in Singapore, all expenses paid.
After about 2 hours they were finally satisfied that I'm not about to go on a wild rampage and take out a few hundred Singaporeans with my very blunt Kris. They gave me a letter that stated my "Dangerous weapon" was for display purposes only and that I had it on my person for the purpose of transportation to a postal service.... well basically anyway..Just in case I was arrested by the local police.
F**k! I tell you, things just can't be simple for me can they??
So, now I decided to stay in Singapore for the next three nights instead of, Johor Bahru, just to save me anymore heartache and possible imprisonment. (I don't care about the cost anymore)
I tell you, I held my breath when I went thru immigration today!!!
But I am safe now and have met up with two English girls for the night..They fly to Oz tomorrow.
We're off to have a meal and a walk around the marina area..and for me...A DRINK!!! I need it.

yes, well, I wouldn't be taking a knife of any description through the customs of a foreign country, not without checking first, but I do have first hand knowledge of what goes on, so I guess you can be forgiven! Won't do it again though will you? HaHa - hilarious!
