Kratie

Kratie is a town that is situated on the banks of the Mekong River and has a claim to the Irrawaddi River Dolphin. We finally arrived to our destination and I was hot sweaty and cranky. Not making a good combination for hopeful guest hose owners and travel companions to approach. We were quickly set upon by a few moto driver and guest house owners and I was really keen just to find a place to settle into and have a shower. We left our bags at one place and trapsed all over town looking at perspective "homes". Eventually and typically we ended p at the original place. I however got the short end of the stick and ended up on the top floor in a room that copped the full afternoon sun! no more rooms available to move into till the next day either! We did pur best to ventilate the room and cool it down but I was still pretty sure it was close to sauna style heat conditions and was not looking forward to the rest of my sleepless night.
The following morning I woke early to get aboard another moto to head off through more villages, see a few more temples and finally to see the Dolphins.
firstly we stopped at a hill top temple which was meant to be really beautiful and peacefully. Well, after climbing close to 1000 steps, in the upright position, we got to what resemble a demolition sight that was far from peaceful and beautiful. They were reconstructing and rebuiling the temple!!
Then we rode for an hour through Villages and finally made our way to the dolphins. These round nosed fellas live in the murky waters of the Mekong and we were luck enough to see a few frolicking in the waters. They were pretty cute and definitely the highlight of the day. Yet again we set of on the moto to another temple were we ha to endure reading the entire life of Buddha in a story book that as conveniently written in English. It was all great but I was busting 2 go to the loo and thought it would be impolite to piss of just as Buddha was becoming elightened.
I also had this little"sun burn" on my neck that I just wanted t bathe underwater. It was killing me and I wasn't really sure were it came from??
